Hello,

Sorry for that! I admit I didnt read the forum rules. I was busy using the search feature looking for my answer and then created my thread using the format of the other threads created!

Anywho,

Im currently experimenting on a diet for my mom. She has early onset alzheimers and I've been experimenting with alternative treatments to help her retain and/or stabilize her symptoms i.e. naturopathic meds, organic foods, homeopathic meds, mixing up her diet, etc

Ive been reading about some diet plans that include benzyl alcohols but I don't have a chemistry background and wanted to know what foods have benzyl alcohol in them and are safe to eat

I would greatly appreciate help regarding this.

Thanks,
Vishal

Since you have been searching our forum and have read the forum rule you may have noticed that

As chemists we are not qualified to offer medical, nutritional or other health advice and do not allow it on these forums.

And, I think you may not have responses to your question because it is close to this guideline.

But I have done GOOGLE on
Food with benzyl alcohol
 and got lots of hits
The WIKI article was very interesting
In any case if you refine your search in GOOGLE you might find listings

I hope all goes well

A little in tea, apparently, and in jasmine and hyacinth oils.

Hey billnotgatez

I understand the forum rules. I don't think I was asking for any dietary advice....just wanted to know if any chemists here knew of edible foods with benzyl alcohols in them.

And I also did a google search on the keywords "Benzyl alcohol+food" etc a few times this week. I didnt come across anything that I didnt already know.....The reason why I came here was to find out something that a chemist would know that I over-looked

So far, I know that Essential oils would have them and that folks put a drop or two in smoothies, drinks, teas, etc.

I also read somewhere about leafy greens having some b.a's in them but Im not entirely sure if that is accurate or how much I would need to consume to benefit from it

A little in tea, apparently, and in jasmine and hyacinth oils.

Corribus

Would you know of any edible foods ( fruits, veges, etc ) that may have some benzyl alcohol in them? I read somewhere that beets and carrots may have some but i don't know if that is accurate

As for the tea you mentioned, what type of tea?

Some links I have found that may or may not be relevant

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzyl_alcohol

http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=chem&id=112

The problem with wiki is it mentions teas and fruits. It doesn't mention what kind of fruits. Thats the issue I'm having. I was hoping some chemist here would point something out that I didnt know of i.e. what type of fruits the wiki is referring too

Here is the excerpt:
"produced naturally by many plants and is commonly found in fruits and teas"

What plants? Which fruits? Which teas?

Also,

would a few ( 2 or 3 ) drops of benzyl alcohol (99.9% ) be harmful?

Such as this http://www.amazon.com/Benzyl-Alcohol-Ultra-Pure-99-9/dp/B008C8RK9Q

I can't seem to find any information any other sources with benzyl alcohol in it
