Alkene reaction types
« on: December 28, 2014, 02:32:24 PM »
For my assignment, I am combining water plus sulfuric acid and 1-butene to produce 2-butanol.

It asks to identify the type of reaction that will occur. I found a list in my book that I think are types of reactions involving alkenes:

hydrochlorination
hydration
bromination
hydroboration
hydrogenation

Am I correct in thinking that I need to pick one of these to answer this part of the assignment?

Work out the empirical formula of starting material and product and note the differences. Then try and fit these to your list.
