Abbreviations in chemistry.
« on: January 08, 2015, 10:25:58 AM »
Good afternoon, colleagues!
I am the Russian student - the chemist.
Help to decipher abbreviations, please, "USP" and "RS": "USP Atorvastatin Related Compound A RS".
Please give explanations!

No problem.  Given the context, USP means "US Pharmacopoeia"  and RS means "Reference Standard".  The company that sold you the Atorvastatin Related Compound A guarantees that the purity they note on the bottle meets US Pharmacopoeia standards for a reference material.

One more - "NMT" and "ppm":
"Acceptance criteria: NMT 20 ppm"

Ok, now some things you can search for yourself, and try to infer from the context.  Try these:

http://www.abbreviations.com/NMT

http://www.abbreviations.com/PPM

This thread is going to get tedious rapidly if we have to teach you English one posting at a time.  You appear to be executing a test plan according to the pharmacopeia.  What could NMT 20 ppm mean?  Why are you following these procedures?  What for?  The answer to my questions will help you understand the document you have, and what its abbreviations mean.
