destroy a piece of polyisoprene?
« on: April 04, 2006, 02:30:19 PM »
Hi there,
I would like to destroy a piece of polyisoprene (which has polimerized in my dropped funnel, so I can't remove it from the glassware).

I can't dissolve it in THF or hexane; I can't destroy it with sulfochromic acid.

could anybody have an idea...

thank you for any suggestion (and for reading this, I am not English speaking)

Bye

Firmin

Try to swell the polyisoprene with some benzene or toluene. May be some heating will help further. Its posible to fully dissolve this polymer in these solvent but your rubber must not be crosslinked with vulcanization..

Hi,
it's done! I destroyed it; one week on sulfochrommic acid was finaly an good idea. the polymer has been partialy attacked; after , i 've put some THF to complete the dissolution.

so, it's posible with patience, strong acid, and good solvent  ;)

thank you for your interest
