Synthesis of p-tert-butylphenol from phenol
« on: February 25, 2015, 11:08:01 AM »
Hey,

I'm preparing a lab and would need some help with the mechanism of it. I know it has something to do with Friedel-Craft but I'm not quite getting the hang of it. I will do a lab when i will synthesize p-tert-butylphenol from phenol. I know that some of the chemicals I will use is phenol, tert-BuCl, AlCl-3, HCL, etylacetate and Na_2SO_4.

Would be nice to get some help with the mechanism!

It is a forum rule that you must show an attempt first, before we can help you.  Maybe a good place to start is with the Friedel-Crafts alkylation.  Also, please try to write your chemical formulas carefully.
