How many gigatonnes of CO2 is there in the atmosphere if...?
« on: February 25, 2015, 05:45:49 AM »
Is there anybody willing to help me with this problem?

How many gigatonnes of CO2 is there in the atmosphere if current concentration of atmospheric CO2 is 394 ppmv? Estimated total number of molecules in the atmosphere is 1.0x10^44, Avogadrov's constant is 6.022x10^23 mol^-1 and molar mass of CO2 is 44.01 g mol^-1

You have to show your attempts at solving the question to receive help. This is a forum policy.

Looks like an exercise in a factor-label method, AKA dimensional analysis. Do you know how it works?

Hi!

I have found this solution:
https://micpohling.wordpress.com/2007/03/30/math-how-much-co2-by-weight-in-the-atmosphere/

But I don't know if that's correct and what do I need the total number of molecules and Avogadro's constant for?

Why don't you try to solve it by yourself, without looking at how others did it?

What does it mean 394 ppmv?
