Help finishing moleular equation H2SO4 + CrBr3?
« on: February 27, 2015, 12:46:13 AM »
Can you please balance this equation H2SO4 + CrBr3?

Could you please show your steps on how you balanced it and why you did. I know the answer should be

3H2SO4 + 2CrBr3 = Cr2(SO4)3 + 6HBr

PLEASE tell me where you get Cr2(SO4)3 from.

Steps to get to answer.

H2SO4 + CrBr3 = Cr2(SO4)3 + HBr
H2SO4 + 2CrBr3 = Cr2(SO4)3 + HBr
3H2SO4 + 2CrBr3 = Cr2(SO4)3 + HBr
3H2SO4 + 2CrBr3 = Cr2(SO4)3 + 6HBr

Check the oxidation number especially of chromium and also the charge of sulfate and bromide. It mathematics like 1/2 + 1/3 = ?

That doesn't explain it though. That would help for the net Ionic equation. Im asking where do you get the initial 2 for Cr and the 3 in the back of (SO4)3

Again you don't understand it. If you have Metal with a charge of +3 and a anion of -2 how to get the molecule  neutral.
