Rearrangements
« on: March 07, 2015, 04:06:00 AM »
In the following Carbocation which group would most likely migrate?
 H, Et, Me, or  D

I know that in the hydride shifts and methyl shifts, it converts a less stable secondary carbocation to a more stable carbocation.  i am not sure about what D's do, is it that they are connected to a quantary carbon without no H,  so they would have to migrate first? I am thinking Me or D would mostly likely migrate, but I am not sure which would migrate more  :( Am I right?

Isnt D basicaly a hydrogen? I cant see it rearange in this molecule since you would then get primary carbocation. If methyl would rearange, then you get the same secondary carbocation again

so the H would migrate to the carbocation to make it more stable i.e that is a tertiary carbocation? :-\
