Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when the oxygen in oxyhemoglobin (HbO2) is displaced by carbon monoxide and forms carboxyhemoglobin (HbCO). This deprives the cells of the oxygen needed for respiration: HbO2 (aq) + CO(g) ⇌ HbCO (aq) + O2 (g). Identify the **best** medical treatment for shifting the equilibrium in a direction that would restore the proper levels of oxyhemoglobin in a victim’s blood.

Best if you think about the problem, and share your thoughts about it instead of just posting the question you were given. There are some super smart people on this forum who want to help, but they want to help students to learn and not just give the answer outright so they don't have to think. Thinking makes us smarter.

So let me ask this:  If there are three gas cylinders attached to a breathing apparatus mask -- one is 100% Nitrogen, the second is compressed air (same as atmosphere so 78% nitrogen, 20.5% oxygen, remaining 1.5% other gases), and the third is 100% pure oxygen, which one would help the person with carbon monoxide poisoning most? followed by which? Which would help the least? Why?
