Surface Area and Reaction Rate

In a heterogeneous reaction, does an increase in surface area between two phases increase or decrease reaction rate. I think it will increase the rate of the reaction because more surface area is available for the reaction.

Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

This is correct. There's several ways to speed up a reaction, the most common are: heating it, (increasing the number and energy of the collisions), increasing surface area (allowing more collisions) and adding a catalyst (increasing the number of successful collisions).
