Can anybody help me with degree of hydrolysis?

I am not able to understand the concept of degree of hydrolysis.when does hydrolysis takes place?qhats the formula???

Degree of hydrolysis is analogous to degree of dissociation

degree of hydrolysis = concentration_of_hydrolyzed_salt / starting_concentration_of_salt
eg
for hydrolydis of CH3COONa
CH3COO- + H2O = CH3COOH + OH-

Kb=[CH3COOH][OH-]/[CH#COO-]= [OH-]^2/[CH3COO-]
Above equation can be solved easily assuming [CH3COO-] = [c_of_sallt]

in this case degree of hydrolysis = [OH-]/[c_of_salt]
