Trouble understanding kA's impact on concentrations
« on: May 02, 2015, 11:53:49 PM »
So if I'm given an extremely small kA for a weak acid hydrolysis equation, I would assume that this reaction favors the reactants. Does that mean the concentration of the weak acid will be higher than the concentration of its conjugate base?

The concentration is the sum of all. You have  maybe 1 mol Acetic acid and this dissociate into acetate and hydronium partially. The equilibrium ist given by kA.
