Iodine clock reaction
« on: June 12, 2015, 06:22:42 AM »
I'm trying to achieve a fast iodine clock reaction, but I have had no luck yet so far. Here's what I'm doing:

Vitamin C solution: 1 1000mg vitamin c tablet dissolved in 60ml of water
Starch solution: 1 tsp of starch dissolved in 40ml of water

Cup A: 10ml Vitamin c solution, 10ml betadine, 15ml water
Cup B: 20ml hydrogen peroxide (3% solution), 5ml starch solution, 10ml water

When I mix the two cups together, the reaction eventually takes place, but it takes a long time and more importantly the transition from clear goes via orange and is very slow (here's a video). I would like the reaction to look more like in this video. I know they use different ingredients, but I have had no luck with using Sodium Iodide and Sulphuric Acid either, so I was hoping it could work with my current ingredients as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
René
