extraction with diluted acid or base

Hi all
Why do we use diluted acid or diluted base for extraction of organic compounds?

What are you trying to isolate from what mixture?

I'm not trying to isolate something especial, I have read this in a text book that two kinds of solvents which are used in organic lab (for extraction of basic compounds or acidic compounds) are diluted acid and diluted base, and it was interesting for me why we don't use conc acid or base ???

By posting a question here on the forums, you are trying to do something -- even if you don't have the need to perform it right now, or a stocked laboratory for you to perform a procedure at this moment.  Please don't be surprised when some member of our group asks you for more information, to help you learn more for yourself.

What outcome does you book mention for the addition of weak acids and bases, and for which target compounds.  Does the book also mention different outcomes for concentrated acids and bases?  Which concentrated acids and bases do you know of that you can mention?  Do those particular acids and bases have known reactions with organic materials?  Pick a random concentrated acid -- concentrated nitric or concentrated sulfuric as examples, how do they interact with a random organic material, say your skin?

sorry if I asked my question badly :-[

it has mentioned there is 4 different solvents for extraction (which depends on the extract)

1-water for salts or any polar comp.
2-organic solvents for organic comp.
3-diluted acid for basic comp.such as amines
4-diluted base for acidic comp. such as carboxcylic acids

my problem is why we need diluted acid or base in 3 and 4, and why we can't use conc acid or conc base instead?

I can think of two reasons. Let's me give a hint. What happens if you add a concentrated acid to a concentrated base (think thermochemistry and check solubilities)?
