hello every one
yesterday i take a piece of wood and put it in a test tube then heat it
the wood began to release a pale yellow gas whose Density is bigger than air
this gas is is dissolved in water and forms a pale yellow solution the solution dose not react with sodium carbonate so it isn't acid
i searched in google and didn't find answer
what's the name of this gas
note : the tube doesn't contain an abundance of oxygen

This is smoke, not a single gas, rather a mixture of products of the wood decomposition.

Why would you want to make the methanol at home?

A some point in time it was the only known way of making it. Now we know much cheaper methods. Not that they are easy to reproduce at home.

i want to produce methanol to amuse not to use it
i also think to make it from yield and pectin but i didn't do this yet
