2,3 dichlorobenzoyl chloride
« on: July 14, 2015, 09:29:35 AM »
What would be the expected reaction between 2,3 dichlorobenzoyl chloride and water?

My thinking so far is that the acyl chloride group would lead to a violent exothermic reaction with water producing HCL(g). But the electronegativity of the chlorine atoms at the 2 and 3 positions on the benzene ring could cause a slower reaction or none at all.

Thanks

1) What is the other product of the reaction? (thats what they are asking¨)
then:
2) what is the mechanism of the reaction? (substution? addition?... electrophilic/nucleophilic?)
3) how does presence of chlorine atoms in the compound change the reactivity of the acid chloride if the reaction is going by mechanism you anwered in 2
(if you want to understand what is going on)
