I would try to use SePh instead of SPh. Should work cold using H
2
O
2
in a dipolar solvent(-->SeO
2
Ph), and then base such as K
3
PO
4
, or DABCO/. glyme for example can be used as a solvent

Great idea. Now the only piece left is to synthesize the protected diol with SePh instead of SPh.
