Structure of Asbestos, Mica and Quartz
« on: September 01, 2015, 10:37:36 PM »
I need to know why the asbestos is fibrous, the mica is laminar and quartz is hard, my guess is that is has something to do with the fact that asbestos is orthorombic, the mica is monocyclic and the quartz is hexagonal, althought I'm not quite sure about the quartz it might be more about the Si-O bonds...
Anyway if you could help me with this it would be great. :)

Look at the components in the crystal lattice and how they are arranged,  rather than the shape of the unit square.
