I need to find the mass of water vapor formed when 1.00g of butane C4H10 is burned in a lighter

Is this just a statement or are you asking a question?

Write an equation for this reaction.

asking a question
i not sure what the equation is
C4H10   + O2   + heat  ----->    4CO2   +   5H20

Okay, but your equation is not balanced yet:

C4H10 + O2  -----> CO2 + H2O

Do you know how to balance this? I will give you a clue, double the values you have for CO2 and water and then go from there.

so ...2C4H10   + 13O2   + heat  ----->    8CO2   +   10H20

is that right?

Yes :) Good work.

Now you need to know the molecular weight of butane.

No problem. Just remember always start with a balanced equation ;-)
