Experiments to Determine the Origin of Inheritance
The scientists worked with a bacterium called pneumococcus. This bacterium, which causes pneumonia, exists in 2 forms.

The 1st form is surrounded by a sugar-like compound called a capsule.

The other variety has no capsule.

When cells with a capsule divide, they form other cells with a capsule. Cells without capsules form new cells without capsules.

Procedure
Mouse A was injected with capsuled cells, while mouse B was injected with noncapsuled cells.

Observation
Mouse A contracted pneumonia and died, while mouse B continued to live.

a) What conclusion can you derive from the experimental results?

b) Why might a scientist decide to repeat this experimental procedure on other mice?

Would it be like What's the difference between the two strains?
Which of that difference caused the mice to die?

Well, do you know why pathogens produce capsules? Adherence plays a central role.

What's the difference between the two strains?
Which of that difference caused the mice to die?
Isn't that obvious?
Anyways, the difference need not be on the genome, but can be plasmid derived.
I'm not suffering from a mental disease - I'm enjoying it.

alycja, the experiment you mentioned is actually part of the famous Griffith's experiment. You can check out for more information here.
