About the reaction of LiH and AlH3 in water
« on: September 23, 2015, 04:34:05 PM »
hello there! :)

I wonder, is LiH a strong base or ist it amphoteric?
Same goes for AlH3... in water it reacts as a Al(OH)3 which is an amphoter. So can it be said that AlH3 ist also amphoteric?

Why isn't LiH amphoteric?

Why isn't LiH amphoteric?

What is the definition of a Lewis acid? What is it about AlH3 that allows it to act as a Lewis acid? Can LiH do the same?
