effect of acetyl salicylic acid
« on: April 26, 2006, 09:04:10 AM »
2 days ago, I analyzed the caffeine and acetyl salicylic acid proportion in Aspirin tablet. I got that one tablet contains about 82.05% acetyl salicylic acid and about 8.2% of caffeine. I can think that those two will affact our urination.
My question is, do carboxyl group in acetyl salicylic acid structure can affect that symptoms? and how can it do that??

Thanks in advance

Can you specify your question? I don't really get the point.

one of the question ask:
"Discuss it! explain the reason that why we have to drink plenty of water after taking aspirine??"

The only thing that I could think to answer this question would come from carboxyl group in acetyl salicylic acid....can you please explain the mechanism why we have to drink much water after taking aspirine??

I'd say it's due to the diuretic effect of caffeine. The more water you excrete, the more you have to drink to maintain the optimal level.

acetyl salicylic acid harms your stomach and intestines

therefore you should take water
(but that's not really a chemical explanation)
Math and alcohol don't mix, so... please, don't drink and derive!

Moreover, it's a basic rule of pharmacology that absorption is generally increased not eating and drinking a lot of water: the former not to interfere with the molecule, the latter to increase peristaltic movements (helping the absorption).
