Ethanol and Isopropanol reaction...
« on: April 26, 2006, 07:01:52 PM »
I would greatly appreciate if any one can answer this question...

What are the FIVE products from the mixture of Ethanol and Isopropanol.

I got two of them, not sure about the other 3

1. Water (because its a dehydration reaction)
2. 2-ethoxypropane. (ethyl attached to the second carbon of propane with Ether bond between the two. So its like C-C-O-C-C-C)

So I would appreciate if you could tell me what the other 3 products would be. THanks in advance.

Well, if the pH is low, I'd add:

3. ethoxyethane
4. 2-isopropoxypropane
5. propene
