oggie:
I am considering a chem major, but i am scared it is too complicated, it was my favorite science in highschool i just realize now that im at college level that there is so much going on, i need some inspiration about what a chem major will do for me, what are some good books, fiction or non, that can give me a better idea of the applications and concentrations, especially in the bridges with physics and engineering, or that can give me an idea of career paths

Yggdrasil:
One emerging field in which chemistry (along with other fields such as physics, biology, and engineering) will play an important role is nanotechnology.  I've heard that The Dance of Molecules by Ted Sargent is a good book on nanotechnology for a general audience.
