Structure help
« on: February 23, 2016, 06:41:31 PM »
Would someone please confirm my structure . . . I'm not feeling very confident.  I'm trying to draw
(1S,2R)-1-bromo-1-sec-butyl-2-methylcyclohexane.  I end up with the bromo group and the methyl group both axial (one up, one down) on adjacent carbons.

Take each chiral centre individually, personally I would start with the centre bearing the proton for the sake of simplicity. How are the remaining three carbon atoms prioritised?

I think your structure isn't exactly right. Check the first stereosenter, where the bromine is attached. Is bromine up or down?

Unless I am missing something fundamental, the structure in the OP is correct.
Don't believe atoms, they make up everything!

I think that OP has 1R instead of 1S

edit: gave it a second tought and you are right Guitarmaniac86. I priored substituents wrong at first. OP has right structure IMO.

According to ChemDraw the name is (1S,2R)-1-bromo-1-(sec-butyl)-2-methylcyclohexane.
So as drawn the carbon bonded to Br is (S).
