GC-MS - lower boiling point - benzo(e)pyrene

Good morning all,
after a lab experience with GC-MS and PAHs, my lab technician
 asked me an interesting question with I cannot sleep on night: "Explain why benzo(e)pyrene can be analysed with GC-MS when both the inlet temperature (300 C) and maximum oven temperature (315 C) is far below the boiling point of the compound (492 C)".
Please help me :-)
or at leasts give some hints

OK, here's a hint:  is anything else happening the the inlet chamber and in the GC column?  Consider, when we perform liquid chromatography, are we always above the melting point of analyte? I mean,its liquid, right?  Can we analyze a solid by HPLC?  How?
