Grignard Reaction
« on: February 25, 2016, 09:52:36 PM »
I am designing a multi-step synthesis experiment for the university I work for. The first reaction is a Grignard reaction. I cannot recall what the standard parameters are for how much ether to use relative to the amount of alkyl halide.

Any one have any input?

Looked through some old experimentals I performed 10 years ago and I used 10mL total volume for 1.5g of starting material (27mmol). I hope this helps.
Don't believe atoms, they make up everything!

You probably want to all your alkyl halide dissolve. Usualy, for me the starting point is: is it dissolved? yes -> continue no-> add more sovlent. Of course, sometimes it doesnt work
