Recycling Scrap Tyres
(1/1)
ACFREEZE:
I wonder if anyone can help me?
I am doing a project on Tyres and one part is on Recycling.
I am trying to find some information on how recycling tyres to produce commercially important products, like Phenol and Propanone and activated carbon, conserves non-renewable energy resources?
Thanks

Hello ACFREEZE,
I have performed a little bit of work on this subject.
The problem which I have been running into is the legal paperwork needed to work with disposing of tires.
Activated carbon is easy enough to make, but extracting Phenol and Propanone may be considerably more challenging.
The most common method is to mechanically cut the tires, and use this material as filler for other items (roads, etc).
Here are a couple of links which can potentially help you out.

Sincerely,
Eugene
