Consider the solvation of the incoming nucleophile. Is it better solvated in a protic or aprotic solvent? In that case, in which solvent is it more nucleophilic? So in which solvent will S
N
2 be faster?

The SN2 mechanism is dependent on nucleophilic strength.
Nucleophile tends to be negatively charged, so which type of solvent molecules will be attracted to the nucleophile? If the nucleophile is heavily solvated, will the reaction kinetics changed?

Also, if the protic solvent is acidic enough, it can prevent S
N
2 reactions by protonating basic nucleophiles. Hydroxide and alkoxides, for instance, are strong nucleophiles, but water and alcohols are only weakly nucleophilic.
