epinephrine?
« on: June 03, 2006, 06:38:50 AM »
hi,

i'm not sure if this is the right forum but i'm trying to find out how the epinephrine(adrenaline) used in local anesthetics is produced. is it artificially synthesized or directly obtained from animal sources? is it synthesized from other animal ingredients? i basically want to know if it's vegan or not.  i've searched all over the net but i haven't found any clear answers. thanks a lot.

I'm not sure what your trying to say but...

Epinephrine is synthesised artificially for medical uses (such as in an EpiPen), if that is what your asking.

I found a diagram of how it's made.

If you want to do some more reading, then this may help.

In this day and age its cheaper to make it in large factories than farms, what I am trying to say is that it is not extracted from animal sources for a variaty of reasons. I doubt you'd have to worry.
