Curprous Chloride to Cupric Chloride
« on: January 21, 2018, 11:43:33 PM »
I have 500grams of Cuprous Chloride and I want to convert it to Curpic Chloride.

Do I just add HCL acid and Hydrogren Peroxide, then test if it etches then boil off the water?

It takes long time because the solubility of CuCl is very poor. But generally it will work.
The presents of CuCl2 will be seen of the dark green colour of the solution.

Thanks heaps chenbeier!

I will just do small runs as per requirements. You have helped a lot.

I really should have read how easy it is to make! But anyway!

Worked out very well. I decided to do a big run since it was going to take so long for the reaction to complete. When the Copper (I) was fully dissolved the reaction was finished.

It was the lovely brown of the Anhydrous product before distilling off the HCL acid which I will use for the next  run as I had it very potent.

Then the Dark Green I wanted appeared! SUCCESS!!! And much easier than the straight Copper in HCL acid and peroxide. Which I am running now and so far it has taken 2 days just to change a tiny bit  ;D

I assume you want to etch circuit boards.  Is this product of yours well suited to you needs?  Does it etch well?  If this current recipe is better than copper in acid H2O2 then good work.  Check to see that it is useful to you for a long enough time.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
