"Traube cell" experiment - I need an answer!
« on: March 28, 2018, 03:59:32 PM »
I hope, most of you know the "Traube cell" chemical experiment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5O549CM3Kk

I have to work on it, but also i have to upgrade it.
For example, to add something.

I want to ask what will happen if i add (for example) onion peel directly ?
I hope you will answer me.
* I gave onion peel just for example, you should suggest me something else , but also
tell me what will happen if i put it inside, will be any changes inside?

Try, chemistry is an experimental science.

When I was a kid we did the experiment the other way around, we put copper sulfate (and other heavy metal salts) crystals into the solution of the hexacyanoferrate. It was called a "garden", no idea if the same name was used in English speaking countries.

But i should try it in the school lab.
First, i must be sure about the theory. What will happen?
I shouldn't start this experiment without knowing what if we add something or.. you know.

This is what science is. You have a question about a phenomenon. You design an experiment that tests that phenomenon. You have a hypothesis i.e. you make a prediction about the outcome. Then, you test that outcome. Finally, you formulate a theory that explains the behavior you are seeing.

I can reasonably assure you it won't explode and injure you. The whole point of doing this experiment in class is to not be spoon-fed the answer by others, but rather to teach yourself by experimentation.

I know, but the point is that I should do a research first, about what will happen if we add something..
I must do a theory research , then start with the experiment..

I can't start the experiment without my researches.

Do you understand the process behind observed effect?

Hi there tom.leniston:, I hope you'll trouble yourself to review our Forum Rules{click}.  You already accepted the rules when you signed up for our forum, and you have to follow them, whether you agree with them or not, or even if you're unaware of them.

And right now, you're not following them.  When our group asks you a question, its to lead you in a useful direction.

Do you understand the process behind observed effect?
Of course I do.

Please don't make posts, like this one, where you just chat.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

To move further on Arckon's point, you should answer Borek's question. He knows the answer already, the idea is to see where your degree understanding is, so we know how to move forward.

Of course I do.

Then you should have no problems with answering the next question: will it repeat itself in the presence of a slice of onion?
