Which of the following Is not a correct IUPAC name? Why?

d)ethylpentane

Could someone plz tell me which one is the right answer and why.

Can someone plz tell me how isomers work and which one is the right answer.

Why not, in each case, draw out the structures, and see if visually, you can get some ideas.

I hope you don't mine my answer, it is "help" for you, its what we do here, see the see Forum Rules{click}.  You already accepted the rules when you signed up for our forum, and you have to follow them, whether you agree with them or not, or even if you're unaware of them.

My teacher says the answer is d while the answer is a on the answer sheet so I am confused. Even after I drew it out is still don't understand how 2-methylbutane is wrong

Can you draw ethylpentane?

If you're assuming 2-methylbutane is incorrect, in some way, then it shouldn't exist, correct?  So what happens when I Google the name? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopentane
