teach me about glass filters

Using the glass wool vs using an actual disk filter.
Can i compress the glass wool as tight as glass disks are manufactured or is the glass wool a much more coarse option?

What are the advantages / disadvantages of each of two types?

Does the glass wool come in different grades, which allows it to be compressed to different filtration grades?

What am I missing?

I have glass wool and an considering buying either a large batch of glass wool or a collection of glass disk filters of different grades. Trying to decide the best option for me given pros/cons for each.

I would have thought that the disks would be more consistent and standard from disk to disk. The wool would probably be cheaper.

It might depend upon what you are filtering, how often you run the filtration (one off with expensive product or daily with stuff you use all the time). If you are used to using wool with the filtration that is common for you then why not wool?  If it is an expensive experiment and you need as high a yield as poss then maybe the disks would be better with a more defined pore size and easier sample recovery.

I can't think of any other pros or cons but there may be others.
Tonight I’m going to party like it’s on sale for $19.99!
