How to Produce a Molar ratio of 2:1
« on: July 23, 2018, 02:05:07 AM »
Hello there
I am trying to produce a solution with Fe3+:Fe2+ ratio of 2:1
How do I make it ? Do I prepare 2 M FeCl3 and 1 M FeCl2 and mix them or is there any other way of doing it.
Kindly help

Any combination of volumes and concentrations that yields 1:2 ratio will do, 2M and 1M solutions combined 1:1 look reasonably OK.

Beware: FeCl2 is not stable and gets oxidized when stored. Best source of Fe(II) is Mohr's salt.

Hi there, thank you for your answer but it is still not clear to me. Did you mean that I should make 1 M solution of both and then mix them ?? or should I make the 2M and 1 M soultion and then mix them ?

The second one.

But do you need only the ratio 2:1 or do you need 2 M and 1 M in the same solution? If yes think again how to prepare this.

I just need a ratio of 2:1, 2 M and 1 M is not mandatory. Do you have any better idea of doing it ??
