Topic: Hi, Im having trouble trying to solve this problem and im not sure how to start  (Read 6234 times)

How many grams of oxygen would be used to completely react with 2.30 moles of propyl alcohol (C3H7OH)? Then calculate the number of carbon dioxide molecules and finally, the grams of water formed during this reaction. C3H7OH+ O2---->CO2 + H2O

First determine the molecular weight of propyl alcohol.
Then the molecular weight of oxygen.
Determine the ratio of propyl alcohol molecules to oxygen (2.30 moles of alcohol).
Then determine the mass of oxygen.
Determine the number of moles of CO2 formed then convert this to molecules (Avogadro).
Determine the number of moles of water formed and its molecular weight.
Then work out the mass of water.

1. balance equation with your combustion reaction
2. Use Mole ration to calculate whatever you want
   such as Mole Alcohol (known) / Mole CO2 (unknown)
3. Substitute mole to other units (gram, dm3)
