DMSO+Free radicals.
« on: July 24, 2006, 09:43:17 AM »
Hi
I know that DMSO is a scavenger of oxidative free-radicals. But could anyone tell me or direct me to some information on which radicals it reacts with and how?
Thanks.

DMSO is oxidized with OH radical to Dimethyl Sulfone:
(CH3)2S=O +2 HO. --> (CH3)2SO2 + H2O
You'll say what the intermediat in the first step bimolecule reaction ;)

Thanks for that, do you know of an assay for dimethyl sulfone?
Also if DMSO reacts with any other radicals?
