Help in Detecting an Unknown
(1/1)
desperate-123:
Hello Everyone! I'm taking a course in organic structure determination, and I'm not being able to detect this compound experimentally... It's solubility class is N(aldehyde, ketone, ester...). It's melting point is around 85-86 degrees, and it is a solid. It doesn't contain Nitrogen nor Halogens. I'm really desperate, so if anyone has worked with such a chemical or knows it, please notify me. Thanks in advance!

No other data? NMR? Mass spec? Just a mass? A list of unknowns to pick out of?
An FTIR can really only tell you what general functional groups are present, it is not usually enough data to identify a whole molecule without some other data.

@ OP,
Would you supply us with your interpretation of the IR data?
