Molecular Weight of Nylon 6.10?
« on: July 28, 2006, 02:40:05 PM »
I'm trying to find the molecular weight of the polymer Nylon 6.10, but I have not been able to find an authoritative source for this answer.  Can anyone tell me definitively what the molecular weight of Nylon 6.10 is, because I want to be sure, since I need the information for my calculations.  Thank you.

Nylon 6.10 ia a  polymer whis is synthesized by polycondensation of hexane-1,6 diamine and sebacoyl chloride:
NH2(CH2)6NH2 + ClCO(CH2)8COCl --> your polymer + n HCl
As for most polymers the therm molecular weight means average molecular weight  ( in most cases as this one you have mol weight polydispersity) - simply you have a mixture or homolg polymers with degree of polymerization for exampl n = 20,25, 40, 42...as having so many n you'll say what definetly it mol weight is and also if n=20 is 35%, n=25 is 5% ans so on... :)
Remember - it will be average one and molecular weight distribution ;)
