33% HBr in Acetic acid procedure
« on: February 15, 2019, 01:20:20 AM »
Hi there

I am in urgent need of 33% HBr in acetic acid for a reaction (not 48% HBr in water). I want to prepare on my won using HBr and AcOH in lab, as i don't have time to wait from commercial sources.

Thanks!!

I would drip conc. HBr (aq) on P2O5 and bubble the formed HBr-gas into cold HOAc.

I would drip conc. HBr (aq) on P2O5 and bubble the formed HBr-gas into cold HOAc.

I will add an additional HBr absorption device to absorb excess gas.
