pH Buffer for EN bath

(1/1)

pcm81:
I've been doing some electroless nickel plating at home in the last couple of years. The bath i settled on using is:
30g NiCl
10g Sodium hypo phosphate
12.6g sodium citrate
5g sodium acetate

all per liter of DI water.

The bath runs at 100 degrees C and pH between 4 and 6.
I am wondering what would be a good pH 4 ish buffer to use to have least impact on baths chemistry. So far i've been using pH Down/Up solutions from hydroponics set. Anyhow, looking to replace it with a proper pH 4-ish buffer which would not have negative impact on EN chemistry.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I enjoy nickel plating as well, and your question makes me curious. I don't have a good answer off of the top of my head, but it's a great question and I'll have fun looking for an answer. I'll ask around and let you know if I find a good buffer. Thanks!
