Formula of the solid of a cubic closet packing arrangement?
« on: April 03, 2019, 06:07:02 AM »
In a crystalline solid, anion C is arranged in a cubic closed packing arrangement. Cations A occupy 50% of the tetrahedral holes and cations B occupy 75% of the octahedral holes. What is the formula of the solid?
How do I find the answer for this kind of question?

You need to know what the cubic close-packed structure looks like, and how many octahedral and tetrahedral holes it has per atom. Can you find, in a textbook or online, a diagram of the unit cell of a ccp structure, and see how many octahedral and tetrahedral holes it has?
