Nitrile Reaction Help
« on: April 15, 2019, 08:42:54 AM »
I have a question about nitrile reactions - I may just be confused, but can a nitrile be used in a reaction to "replace" the substituent?  For example, if I were to take ethylbenzene and react it with a -C≡N, would the product be benzonitrile? I know that this works for a halogen, just not sure about something like an ethyl group.

thanks!

Do you understand what a leavinggroup is? Is ethyl a leavinggroup?
