Reterosynthesis
2-Butanone => 2-Butanol => acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) + ethyl MgBr (CH3CH2 MgBr)

synthesis:
Ethyl Bromide + Mg in ether --> Et MgBr

CH3CHO + Et MgBr --> CH3CH(OH)CH2CH3

CH3CH(OH)CH2CH3 + KMnO4 --> CH3COCH2CH3

Also, you can synthesis target in one-step reaction:
Butanone=>Propionitrile + ethyl MgBr

synthesis:

Ethyl Bromide + Mg --> Et MgBr

CH3CH2CN + Et MgBr -->[ CH3C(=N-MgBr)CH2CH3]----->hydrolyzed with acid aq.  CH3COCH2CH3
