Hi!
I am writing a chemistry report, and in the discussion part, we have to discuss our yields.
The first step is to make a functional group interconversion on the ketone in ethyl acetoacetate, to protect it from reagents used in step two. Acid catalysed formation was used to form a cyclic ketal from the ketone and ethane-1,2-diol. My yield was 65%.
Second step was to perform a Grignard reaction on the ester in product [A]. My yield here was 47%.
I know I can`t expect a 100% yield, but what is a good yield? Is there somewhere i can find values for this? Or can I calculate an expected percentage yield?
Hope someone can help me
