Net Ionics
« on: March 14, 2012, 12:01:20 PM »
How do you go about answering this question?

Acidic solution of potassium dichromate is added to a solution of iron(II) nitrate

I started out with K2Cr2O7 + Fe(NO3)2

I am suppose to find the net ionic equation, but I do not know the balanced equation even... Could someone help me?
It is a REDOX reaction btw :)

THANKS A BUNCH!

Without  strong acid (usually H2SO4) nothing happens.

But this is a past AP free response question in chemistry, and they were able to come up with something.... this is a REDOX reaction, but I do not know how they arrived at the answer

[Cr2O7]2-  + [Fe2+] + [H+]  :rarrow: [Fe3+] + [Cr3+] + H2O
