Thioacetamide toxicity and biodegradation
« on: July 08, 2013, 06:05:18 AM »
I'm a chemist who is involved in farming.
Some days before I bought a liquid ecological fertilized that was an extract of composting red earthworms. This fertilized is launched as odorless or with mild odor. In fact is smells terrible. I can recognize this smell. It smells thioacetamide.

I contacted the customer service of the manufacturer and they said it is normal.

But I still will a little bit anxious. Is there any information about the toxicity of thioacetamide (or relative compounds) or of its biodegradeable. Anyway, does anybody know if it is appropriate or not for a fertilizer to contain thioacetamide?

Thioacetamide is a carcinogen so should not be in fertilizer.
